Kadamtala Development: Residents Raise Pollution Alarm
Churaibari (Tripura), Feb 26: New infrastructure projects are moving forward in the Kadamtala block of North Tripura. However, this progress is causing serious concerns about pollution.
Residents of Jherjheri village are specifically worried about the Kurti Panchayat area. They are complaining about loud noise and heavy dust.
They say stone crusher units and ongoing alternative national highway work are causing serious air and sound pollution in the area.
Sources of Pollution
Several crusher machines have been set up on leased private land. As a result, villagers claim the environment is deteriorating quickly. During the dry season, thick dust fills the air. At the same time, loud machine noise continues throughout the day.
Because of this, daily life has become difficult. Homes, trees, and crops are getting covered in dust. Furthermore, elderly people and children are facing health problems. Students are also struggling to concentrate on their studies.
In addition, heavy trucks carrying soil and construction materials are moving constantly for the highway project. Therefore, airborne dust has increased even more.
However, residents say they support development and better roads. Still, they believe progress should not harm public health and the environment.
So, they have urged the local and district administration, as well as the Chief Minister, to take immediate action to control air and noise pollution.
Crusher Owners’ perspective
On the other hand, crusher owners say they are following all rules. They claim they use water sprinklers to reduce dust.

They also blame the dry weather and road construction for the current situation. According to them, steps are being taken to improve conditions.
Overall, the issue highlights the growing challenge of balancing infrastructure growth with environmental protection in rural areas.
