The Tripura Karate team clinched a total of 11 medals in different categories including 3 gold medals.

 

In a remarkable display of skill and determination, players from Tripura excelled at the India Open International Karate Championship held in Delhi from August 4 to August 6.

The event, which took place at the prestigious Talkotara Stadium, witnessed an impressive haul of 11 medals for Tripura’s karate contingent, including a triumphant collection of three gold medals.

The Indian Karate Federation organized the Championship in which participants from different States, as well as various countries like Nepal, took part, media reported.

Yogendra Marak and Subrata Sharma showcased their fighting spirit and brought honor to Tripura by clinching gold medals in their respective categories. Their exceptional performances contributed significantly to the state’s success on the national stage.

Notably, Priya Debnath secured a well-deserved bronze medal in the senior category, further enhancing Tripura’s medal tally during the event’s final day of competition.

The tournament also saw Tripura’s emerging karate talents shine, as they demonstrated their prowess in both the sub-junior and junior divisions.

An impressive eight medals were secured by these young karatekas, showcasing the depth of talent in the region.

Among them, Hriday Marak secured Tripura’s first-ever gold medal in the competition, etching his name in the annals of the state’s sporting history.

Complementing the gold medal success were the achievements of Shanki Karmakar, Akshita Majumder, Abhipsa Nath, Uday Dey, Biprajit Saha, Suhana Ghosh, and Subhrajit Sinha, who each proudly claimed bronze medals in their respective categories.

In total, the Tripura Karate team clinched 11 medals in different categories including 3 gold medals.

Expressing elation at the team’s exceptional performance, Coach Krishna Sutradhar conveyed his happiness and pride in the hard work put in by the athletes and their resounding success on a national platform.

The triumphant karatekas returned to Tripura amidst jubilant celebrations, landing at the local airport on a Monday afternoon flight. Their remarkable achievements have not only brought accolades to themselves but also showcased the state’s burgeoning prominence in the field of karate on a national level.
