Kharchi Mela is an ultimate example of peace and prosperity among the people of different communities.
Everyone must come forward taking up more responsibility to uphold this Mela and festival before the World, stated Information & Cultural Affairs Minister Sushanta Choudhury in a preparatory meeting held at Geetabitan Hall in Khoyerpur yesterday in connection with the upcoming Kharchi Mela and Festival which is to be held at Choudda Devta Mandir in Old Agartala.
The meeting was presided over by Speaker of Tripura Legislative Assembly Ratan Chakraborty.
ICA Minister said, Kharchi Mela holds the message of cultural exchange of different communities. However, Kharchi Mela could not be conducted as it should have been in the last two years due to Covid-19 situation. Everyone must take a responsible role in bringing back the age-old tradition of conducting the Mela.
TLA Speaker Ratan Chakraborty in the meeting said, pilgrims not only from the state but from nearby states and even from neighbouring country, Bangladesh also come to take part in the Mela and festival. Kharchi Mela and festival holds the old-age tradition of the state which is why it is important to conduct the festival in a proper manner.
Sabhadhipati of West Tripura Zilla Parishad, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumdar, Chairman of Old Agartala Panchayat Samiti Biswajit Shil, Old Agartala BDO Pamela Saha, Jirania SDM Jiban Krishna Acharjee, Director of Youth Affairs & Sports department Subikash Debbarma, social worker Amit Nandi and officials of different departments were also present in the meeting. Kharchi Mela and the festival will be conducted for 7 days starting from July 7.
Elaborate discussions were held regarding the successful conduction of the Mela and festival. It was decided in the meeting that like every other year, this year also an exhibition will be conducted at the premises of the Mela on behalf of different departments of the state government. A vibrant cultural programme will be organized at Krishnamala Stage on behalf of the Information & Cultural Affairs department. Chairman of Mela Committee and TLA Speaker Ratan Chakraborty urged everyone’s cooperation for the successful conduction of the Mela.
