In the aftermath of the Kumarghat Ulto Rath tragedy on June 28 last, Power Minister, Ratanlal Nath on Friday visited Kumarghat and met with the families of the victims and offered financial support.
Nath handed over financial aid to bereaved and victim families on behalf of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL).
He handed over Rs 1 lakh to the next kin of each deceased and Rs 50 thousand to each of the injured persons.
In a Facebook post, he wrote, “Minister Santana Chakma and TSECL officials will reach the families of the two victims at Jayashree in Kanchanpur on Saturday with financial help from the Corporation. Besides I will go to GB Hospital to inquire about the injured and the victims will be given financial assistance by the Corporation”.
Nath was accompanied by MLA Bhagaban Das and High Officials of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL) during his Kumarghat visit.
In an appeal, Nath said, “The Chief Minister has already constituted an inquiry committee with the District Magistrate. The details will be clear only after this committee submits its report. Corporation is also preparing an internal report. But no matter what the report comes, it is necessary that such a sad situation should never be seen again – so I am appealing to all concerned to be more aware and careful”.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament Rebati Tripura visited Kumarghat on the same day. He paid visits to the residents of the deceased and expressed condolences to the grieving families. The MP expressed deep shock and solidarity with the victims’ families.
Rebati Tripura also visited the hospital, where he met with the patients who are undergoing treatment.
Later, in a tweet, The MP said, “I met and condoled with the families who lost their family members in the tragic incident at Kumarghat I pray to God to give them strength in this difficult time”.
He also mentioned the assistance announced by the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister.
