Tripura Pradesh Congress leadership has decided to temporarily suspend party programmes including public rallies owing to the alleged lack of security of the party leaders and supporters.
State Congress leader Ashish Saha, while addressing a press meet in Agartala on Thursday said, the party was conducting joining programmes in the State – however, in view of the prevailing ‘lack of security, Congress has decided to temporarily withhold conducting public rallies and joining programmes.
Saha alleged that the ruling BJP party had started applying terror tactics across the state and also against the Congress leaders.
“Even as State in-charge of the Party Ajay Kumar met the DGP regarding the law and order condition of the State. He demanded security arrangements for the party leaders, police had failed to provide our leaders and workers while we organised some party gatherings across the state,” Saha said.
He said that the Congress party leaders also wanted to meet the Governor of the state, but as his health condition is not good, the party wrote a letter to him and apprised him of the terror tactics to scare away people. This strategy has rendered the general people of the state unsecured.
When asked about the team of the All India Congress Committee that was supposed to visit the State after the political clash in Agartala on February 26 last, Ashish Saha said the team would visit the State soon.
“While the delegation of All India Congress Committee is to arrive here in Tripura soon, we have decided to suspend party programmes for a week,” adding to this the Congress leader said that the party would later sit to decide the next course of action regarding the resumption of party programmes.
