Lakshmi Singh, the wife of Tripura's first Chief Minister Sachindra Lal Singh, passed away on Friday at her residence in Delhi. She was 92. She was suffering from old-age-related diseases.
She is survived by her two sons and two daughters.
Sachindra Lal Singh was a prominent leader of the Indian National Congress and served as the Chief Minister of Tripura.
Lakshmi Singh was a quiet and unassuming person. She was always supportive of her husband's political career. She was also a keen social worker and was involved in various charitable activities. Even as she was not associated with direct politics, she was popular among the people.
Lakshmi Singh's death has been mourned by political leaders and social activists across the state. She is survived by her two sons, two daughters, and grandchildren.
Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed deep grief at the demise of Lakshmi Singh. In a condolence message, he said, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Laxmi Singh, the wife of the state's first chief minister, Sachindralal Singh. I spoke to her daughter, Nandita Singh, over the phone and expressed my deepest condolences to the bereaved family on behalf of the people of the state. I pray to God for the eternal peace of the departed soul".
One of her sons, Ashish Lal Singh is a leader of the ruling BJP in Tripura.
