In response to the prevalence of malaria in various remote areas of the Teliamura sub-division in Tripura, special initiatives including blood tests in every house, were launched by the concerned Sub-divisional Health Department.
The malaria scare came to the fore after eight individuals from remote hamlets of the Teliamura sub-division were admitted to the Hospital on Sunday.
The prevalence of malaria with the onset of the dry season sparked concerns among the villagers. However, the health department was quick to respond.
A medical team from the Sub-divisional Health Department, under the leadership of SDMO Chandan Debbarma, started extensive surveys in the malaria-affected villages.
To promptly address the situation, the health department has initiated house-to-house blood testing. During these tests, malaria was identified in the blood samples of five more individuals on Monday.
Among the five individuals, three were found to be infected with PF (Plasmodium falciferum) and two with PV (Plasmodium vivax), indicating malaria cases.
Since some patients declained to go to the hospital, health authorities are providing necessary medications to them at home.
The Sub-Divisional Health Department’s medical team will continue their efforts to identify malaria patients in the malaria hit areas tomorrow, the SDMO informed the media today.
The SDMO expressed concern about the increasing number of malaria cases in villages such as Kakrachhara and Nonachhara ADC, including Tirthamani Reang Para and Bilaiham Reang Para.
They have also urged the State health department to urgently supply essential malaria drugs, including ACTL, Primaquine, and chloroquine to Teliamura Hospital.
This month, ten individuals have been admitted to the Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital due to malaria, with two of them having been successfully treated and discharged.
Currently, eight individuals are still hospitalized, including children and elderly individuals.
