Maoist couple held
A Maoist couple was apprehended by the NIA from the Assam-Tripura bordering village, Sonakhira on Sunday.
According to sources, after the arrest of Maoist leader of West Bengla Kanchan da aka Arun Kumar Bhattacharjee, several information regarding Maoist network at Barak Valley Tea gardens started to pour in.
As part of the investigation, NIA sleuths raided the house of the Maoist couple, Raju Urang and Pinki Urang – from Sonakhira under Patharkandi PS in Karimganj district and recovered several items including laptop, mobiles, some paper cutting etc.
It is learned that several Maoist leaders would visit the house of the Urang couple. NIA took them to Patharkandi PS for interrogation.
Woman allegedly attacked by a minor drug addict
A housewife was reportedly attacked by a 16-year-old boy at Murapara area in Kajla village under Melaghar police station on Saturday night.
The accused, who is reportedly a drug addict, entered the room of the neighbouring woman and tried to snatch away her chain when she was performing religious ritual.
As he failed to snatch the chain, he allegedly attacked the woman with a dau (machete).
The accused was arrested after a complaint was lodged against him at Melaghar police station and the woman was shifted to a local hospital. The minor boy, however, denied the allegation.
During interrogation, the accused informed the police that he was accompanied by another boy who had attacked the woman. Police already initiated a probe into the incident.
