The 44th Masters Athletics Competition, held in Pune, Maharashtra, witnessed a remarkable performance from the athletes of Tripura. The fourth day of the competition, on Friday, saw Tripura bagging an impressive tally of 11 medals, including three golds. This brings their four-day total to 34 medals, eight of which are gold.

Team manager Priyalal Saha expressed optimism about the team’s prospects, predicting that Tripura would add to their medal count on the competition’s final day, Saturday. However, the day was not without its challenges. Saha himself sustained serious injuries during a pole vault attempt. Additionally, athletes Jaba Dutta Pal and Moumita Das were injured during the javelin throw, potentially affecting the team’s overall medal tally.

Habib Mia clinched a gold medal in the pole vault, while Kajal Chandra Das secured another gold for Tripura in the 3000 meters steeplechase. The 4X400 meter Relay in the 55 group also witnessed a strong performance of the Tripura athletes as Archana Banik, Tapashi Debdas, Gayatri Majumder and Ivi Bardhan won the Gold medal.

Silver medals were won by Mahabub Alam in the 3000 meters steeplechase and MD Zohar Mia in the pole vault.

Raki Saha added to the medal count with a bronze in the 200 meters sprint. Other medal winners included Savita Nama in pole vault, Moumita Das in javelin throw, and Kajal Chandra Das in the 10000 meters race. The 4×100 meters relay in the 60+ category saw a strong performance from Savita Das, Kabita Das, Jaba Pal Dutta, Chandana Das Saha, and Gayatri Majumder Saha and the 50+ category 4×100 relay team, comprising Archana Banik, Tapasree Deb Das, Savita Das and Ivi Bardhan also won bronze medals and contributed to the medal tally.
