In a disturbing turn of events, a youth reportedly killed his elderly mother and stayed with her body for three days. The macabre incident took place at the Radhapur village under Dharmanagar Police Station in North Tripura.
The deceased woman, Shanti Debnath (65) was staying at her house at the Radhapur village along with her son, Raju Debnath(30). Her husband, Jitendra Debnath stays at Agartala while her daughter, Soma Debnath who was married off, stays at Haflong.
The weird incident came to the fore after a person from the local electric office went to Shanti Debnath’s residence to deliver the electric bill on Monday. He found the door of the house was closed as well as he noticed blood strains on the door and felt a foul smell.
The person informed this to Shanti Debnath’s neighbours and soon Police were intimated. Police along with the locals managed to pursue deceased woman’s son, Raju to open the door and come out. Soon, Police found the body of Shanti Debnath lying inside the room. Immediately Police arrested Raju. Later SDPO Debashish Saha along with the Forensic team reached the spot.
Raju Debnath admitted that he had killed his mother with an axe on Friday night. He was planning to bury her body in a ditch that he was digging in the house. However, he did not get a chance to bury the body and since her killing, Raju was staying with his mother’s body. Meantime, local people alleged Raju often beat his mother.
Police recovered the body and sent it for an autopsy. After that, the body would be handed over to deceased woman’s husband and daughter on Tuesday.
