Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has pledged  support for the ‘Greater Tipraland’ demand put forth by the main opposition party in Tripura, TIPRA Motha.

Sangma who reached Agartala on Saturday joined forces with the former Chief of TIPRA Motha, Pradyot Kishore Deb Barman, and addressed a gathering at the Khumulwng ground in the Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) headquarters.

Sangma emphasized the unique significance of the North East within India, primarily due to the presence of indigenous communities.

Despite diverging political paths, indigenous leaders in the region have consistently voiced the concerns of North East communities.

Now, it falls to their generation to continue this legacy and emphasize the importance of indigenous unity for the well-being of future generations.

In his speech, Sangma clarified that their intention is not to antagonize any community but to stand in solidarity with the Tiprasas, the indigenous people of Tripura.

Their united objective is to champion the rights and demands essential for the holistic development of the North East region of the country.

Sangma also made it clear stating that they would not remain silent if any attempts are made to seize control of the North East region or threaten its rich cultural heritage. The indigenous communities within the region have an inherent right to their existence.

The opposition party, TIPRA Motha, organized this rally to amplify their call for ‘Greater Tipraland’ and advocate for a constitutional solution that addresses the needs and rights of the indigenous tribes in the state of Tripura.

Later, in a social media post, Pradyut Kishore Debbarma thanked supporters saying, “Some say we are too small as states but we know we have a big heart and bigger support ! Hail to the indigenous unity”.
