Agartala, Mar 06, 2017: On impact of MNREGA in her life, a 40-year old tribal widow said, “MNREGA has provided me an opportunity to lead life, at least, with minimum decency. Now I can feed myself and my son using my MNREGA wages”.
In fact, MNREGA is considered to be instrumental in providing dignity and self-sufficiency to unskilled and helpless rural people across the country. In Tripura, MNREGA has not only provided an earning opportunity to unskilled rural labour force, it has contributed to creating permanent assets in rural Tripura.
At some places, like Taibandal and Killa RD Block in Tripura, water bodies were dug up which in turn emerged as major source of ground water recharging and solved water scarcity problem in the area. Construction of earthen-roads in Killa connecting interior villages is another major achievement of MNREGA.
According to Principal Secretary of State RD Department GSG Ayenger, 70 man-days were created till date during current Financial Year which is expected to increase in remaining days of 2016-17 FY.
Chief Minister of Tripura Manik Sarkar chaired a review meeting of RD Department on March 5 at Agartala and lamented that Central Government was slashing MNREGA fund regularly, though the State was implementing MNREGA with outmost sincerity. Having said that MNREGA is important to guarantee income to poor rural people, he directed the District Magistrates to increase number of man-days as much as possible in remaining days of ongoing financial year.
On Geo-tagging, Chief Minister asked the DMs to monitor installing Geo-tagging system and expedite the process. He said, the State Government is implementing MNREGA maintaining transparency.
Tripura has emerged as top State in the country several times in the past in implementing MNREGA since its inception.
