Inclusion of Oncological surgeries in Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Centre (ABV-RCC) in Agartala has significantly reduced the outflow of patients from Tripura to other States.
This reduction has also slashed the burden on the Government exchequer, sources in ABV-RCC said this on Monday. Meanwhile, one more complicated surgery on an Oral Cancer patient was done at ABV-RCC today.
Patients of the State had to go to other States for onco-surgeries, however, since after Dr Ashish Kumar Gupta and Dr Pritish Rajiv Singh joined the ABV-RCC, referring patients to out of the State Hospitals has almost come down to a naught. This has contributed in saving Government expenditure in a big way as each refer case costs around Rs 4-5 lakh.
While services of two Onco-surgeons are the main boost, infrastructural up-gradation is also another crucial factor that ensured quality surgical services to patients of the State.
“Installation of Modular OT facility at ABV-RCC has dramatically changed the situation. This facility has come as a boon for Anesthetists and patients are immensely benefitted”, said Dr MrinalDebbarma, Anesthetist of the Hospital.
Briefly explaining the benefit of highly sophisticated Modular OT facility, Dr Debbarma said complicated surgeries are often a time-taking exercise and patients have to put in a ventilator during the lengthy surgical procedures.
However, with a Modular OT facility available, even 5-6 hours long surgeries can be done without putting the patients in a ventilator as the facility helps Anesthetist to monitor the patients’ health condition precisely and based on the information, an Anesthetist can regulate the situation.
Notably, the ABV-RCC has conducted at least 12-13 surgeries in this new OT facility, so far, Dr Debbarma said. However, a total of more than 30 surgeries were conducted after the introduction of Onco-surgery facility in ABV-RCC and at least, 15-16 patients are on the waiting list, till date.
According to sources, after the complicated thyroid surgery, another complicated surgery was done today. A 52-year old woman SafaiBibi was suffering from Oral Cancer. She hails from Rawa Bazar under North Tripura. Dr Ashish Kumar Gupta and Dr Pritish Rajiv Singh conducted the surgery while Dr MrinalDebbarma was the Anesthetist in the operation. The surgery continued for over 5 hours.
Speaking about the surgery Dr Debbarma said,onco-surgeons operated upon the patient to clean cancer cells from patient’s mouth and throat. However, the patient is doing well after the surgery.
