Union Minister of State for Railways Raosaheb Patil Danve conducted a window trailing inspection in Agartala – Sabroom route on Wednesday and stressed on constructing rail tracks up to Maitri Setu in perspective of trade with Bangladesh.
Speaking to the media at Sabroom, he said, there is a need to extend the rail line up to Maitri Setu for international trade with Bangladesh.
Danve also assured that he would discuss the matter related to train service from Sabroom to Kolkata with the department. He said that a proposal was already sent for running express trains from Sabroom. The Sabroom station would be transformed into a big rail station, he told the media.
During the inspection, he took a review of various aspects of track and signalling equipment along with other safety related gears. He was accompanied by General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway Anshul Gupta and senior officials.
Before leaving for the inspection, Danve visited Agartala railway station and reviewed various projects and infrastructure developmental works.
He also inaugurated the Monumental National Flag at Agartala station. He was given the guard of honour by the RPF contingent at Agartala station.
On his way to Sabroom, he visited Udaipur station and interacted with the passengers. He appreciated the architecture which is based on the famous Tripureshwari temple.
The Union Minister of State then inspected Sabroom station yard and upcoming Logistics Hub at Sabroom, a strategic project for seamless transportation.
He also reviewed the operational aspects and innovative features provided at the station yard for handling freight transportation. He took stock of the amenities and facilities available for smooth functioning of loading/unloading works. He also interacted with media persons at Sabroom station.
The MoS also paid a visit to Integrated Check Post (ICP) which is being set up at Sabroom in Tripura. The ICP is envisioned to contain multi-modal facilities to handle road, railway and waterways cargo.
According to an official press release, there is a proposal for railway siding for loading/unloading of goods inside ICP, to be developed under Prime Minister’s Gati Shakti Terminal Policy. The policy will help in implementing these projects in a time-bound manner and enable direct connectivity with Railways.
