Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, in presence of Sports & Youth Affairs Minister (YAM) Sushanta Chowdhury, inaugurated the 54th National Service Scheme (NSS) day and a seminar  on Nesha Mukt Tripura at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan on Wednesday ( November 2). 

 

The programme was jointly organised by NSS ,Tripura cell and National Mental Health Programme under the Sports & Youth Affairs dept today.

 

In his address Chief Minister Dr. Manik  Saha said, hailed the role of the NSS volunteers during crucial period. 

 

Dr Saha emphasized the need to end the drug menace and urged the NSS volunteers alongwith all the stakeholders to this issue.

 

The Chief Minister pitched hard to save the human resources from the clutches of drugs and getting wasted.

 

No one wants our younger generation to suffer under the influence of drugs. We must save them – the human resource of the State, he commented and added, “It is imperative that we conduct more and more discussion on the ill effects of the drugs to aware people on the impact of drug abuse”. 

 

He pointed out Tripura is one of top States in terms of seizing drugs. Dr Saha also sounded warning for ganja cultivation.

 

Police are working hard to curb drug menace. Vigil against ganja cultivation and drug peddlers needs to keep on in the fight against drugs, he pointed. 

 

Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury also applauded the role of the NSS volunteers, especially during the Covid pandemic. 

 

“These young volunteers of NSS who are full of vitality should be properly trained so that they can use their full strength to face any natural calamity. If necessary, they will be made more efficient in using the latest technology”, Chowdhury said.

 

He also mentioned the I’ll effects of the drugs and highlighted State government’s initiatives in combating the issue.

 

Among others, Dr Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty, Secretary, Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of Tripura, Director Subikash Debvarma, Director of Soldier Welfare Board, Retired Brigadier J.P. Tiwari, State Program Officer of National Mental Health Program (NMHP) Dr. Udayan Majumdar were also present on proggrame. Tripura State NSS Officer Dr. Chitrajit Bhowmik conducted the programme.

 

In today’s programme, On behalf of Tripura State NSS Cell, Dr Manik Saha handed over a cheque of Rs. 1,20,602 for State Sainik Welfare Board was handed over to Board’s director J P Tiwari.
