In a collaborative effort between the Agartala Potato, Onion, Garlic Wholesale Traders Association and the Food Department of Tripura, a new sales center has been inaugurated to combat the issue of rising onion prices.
The inauguration ceremony took place at Maharajganj Bazar’s Netaji Subhash Road area, marking a significant step towards stabilizing onion prices for the local populace.
The recently inaugurated sales center stands as a testament to the joint initiative’s commitment to providing essential commodities to the public at reasonable rates.
The opening event was graced by the presence of Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Arup Roy, who highlighted the importance of such endeavors in curbing inflationary tendencies in the market.
Addressing the gathering, Arup Roy announced plans to replicate this model in various markets across the region, demonstrating the Food Department’s dedication to keeping onion prices in check. At the new sales center, consumers are now able to purchase onions at a fixed price of Rs 38 per kilogram, offering them a respite from the recent surge in prices.
According to sources, under the vigilant oversight of both the sub-divisional administration and the Food Department, operations at the sales center are expected to check the unabated price rise.
This proactive approach aims to ensure that onion prices remain within reasonable limits, sparing consumers from the brunt of abrupt escalations.
Nirmal Adhikari, the Director of the Food Department, was also in attendance during the inauguration ceremony. The establishment of this sales center not only signifies a practical solution to the escalating onion prices but also exemplifies the potential of cooperation between local trade associations and government entities in addressing pressing economic challenges. As consumers flock to this new center, hopes are high for a positive impact on the overall market stability in the days to come.
