Yet again, suspected 14 Rohingya people held in Tripura

Once again, suspected Rohingya people were detained at the Indo-Bangla border in Tripura by the BSF jawans.

On Sunday, a total of 14 suspected Rohingya people including women and children, while crossing the Indo-Bangla border at Kamthana area under Madhupur police station in Tripura, were caught by the patrolling BSF jawans. It is alleged, that they were crossing the border illegally.

Rohingya detention is nothing new in Tripura – in the recent past, security personnel also detained Rohingya people from trains and others vehicles from different parts of the State.

It is reported, that patrolling BSF jawans of Kamthana BOP in Madhupur noticed them on Sunday morning while they were crossing the border and entering Tripura illegally. BSF jawans detained them and later, the BSF handed them over to Madhupur police.

However, the identity of the arrested people is yet to be officially ascertained, police sources said.

Timber smugglers in Tripura leave 3 Forest personnel hurt

At least three forest department personnel were wounded following an attack by miscreants during a raid on a forest hideout of the timber smugglers on Saturday night.

Among them, a Forest Guard, Sankar Gowala was seriously injured in the attack. The clash between the Timber smugglers and the Forest Guard took place along the Assam-Agartala National Highway adjacent to Vishakarma Mandir at Chakmaghat.

On the basis of secret information, a team of forest personnel of the Teliamura sub-divisional forest department went to raid a hideout of forest timber smugglers in Shalbagan area under Mungiakami police station.

During the raid, about 50 to 60 forest timber smugglers turned hostile and launched a lethal attack on the forest personnel. Several forest department personnel were injured – and among them, Sankar Gowala (58) sustained head injuries. He was rushed to Teliamura Hospital and later, he was shifted to GB Hospital after initial treatment.

Miscreants attacked the Forest guards when they were returning after seizing a timber-laden Maruti van. Despite the vicious attack, Forest guards put up a valiant resistance and ultimately, the timber had to retreat and flee away. Along with the timber-laden Maruti van, a motorcycle was also seized.
