‘Dead’ man returns: Police denies exerting pressure on parents
Tripura Police on Wednesday denied that they had put pressure on Kanak Sarkar- father of Akash Sarkar- to identify a body fished out of Melarmath pond to be of his son. When Akash Sarkar (22) who had been presumed dead, came home walking his father alleged that he was pressurized by the police to identify as dead body as of Akash.
An official release said, “The matter was verified. It is informed that on 03.06.2022 a dead body was found in Melarmath area. As per laid down guidelines. the recovery of dead body was informed to all Police Stations / Outposts. The photographs of the same were also circulated in Social/Print Media.”
“Shri Kanak Sarkar S/o Lt. Aswini Sarkar of Rangutia, PS Lefunga after receiving this information through Social Media and local public, approached OC Battala Outpost on 04.06.2022 for having a look at the dead body. During visit to the Morgue, based on facial features, wearing apparels and other belongings, he identified the, dead body as of his son namely, Akash Sarkar. Accordingly the dead body was handed over to the family after due formalities,” it read.
Woman Panchayat Pradhan resigns
Gram Pradhan of Gakulnagar under Fatikray, Supta Pal Deb resigned on Wednesday. She cited personal issues as the reason for her decision to resign from the post. After 2018 Assembly polls, BJP wrested control of Gakulnagar Panchayat and Bankim Mitra became the Panchayat Pradhan – however, Mitra died within one year and Supta Pal Deb assumed the responsibility of Gram Pradhan.
According to locals, she rendered her resignation to the Block Officials after becoming frustrated at growing incidences of corruption – however, she mentioned that she resign because of her own problems.
Gomati CMO Office becomes Tobacco free zone
In consonance with the State Government’s decision, the Office of Gomati District Chief Health Officer (CMO) has become ‘Tobacco Free Zone’ from Wednesday.
A programme was held to this end at Auditorium of the CMO office in Tepania under Gomati District today.
CMO Dr. Niru Mohan Jamatia administrated the ‘No Tobacco’ oath to all the staff and officials of the office during the programme.
Besides, Dr. Arjun Saha was appointed as the supervisor who will ensure the implementation and look after the initiative. While speaking at the occasion Saha highlighted various adverse effects of Tobacco use.
Earlier, a meeting was held with the participation of officials of all departments under the leadership of the District Magistrate. According to the district Consultant of Tobacco Control initiative – Arijit Das, the process of making the Schools and Offices ‘Tobacco Free Zones’ is in progress under the guideline of the central government.
CMO Officials Dr. Chiranjit Noatia, Dr. Sujay Das and others were present at the occasion.
