Online Delivery Row Ends in Tragedy in Dharmanagar
Dharmanagar, Dec 14: A wave of shock and tension has swept through Dharmanagar following the mysterious death of a 23-year-old delivery worker, allegedly after he was publicly humiliated and assaulted over an online delivery-related dispute.
The victim, identified as Prasenjit Sarkar, was found hanging from a tree in a forested area near his residence early Sunday morning.
Prasenjit was employed as a delivery boy with Blue Dart Courier, operating from the Rajbari area of Dharmanagar. He was a resident of Ward No. 3 under Kameshwar Gram Panchayat, within the jurisdiction of Dharmanagar police station.
According to his father is Nepal Sarkar and other family members, the incident stemmed from a dispute on Saturday evening when a woman customer, accompanied by four associates, reportedly visited the Prasenjit’s workplace at Blue Dart office, over a delivery-related phone call.
The situation allegedly escalated into physical assault and verbal abuse. Despite offering an apology, Prasenjit was allegedly forced to perform sit-ups while holding his ears, an act described by the family as deeply humiliating.
It is further alleged that a video of the incident was recorded and circulated on social media platforms.
Family members claim that the public humiliation left Prasenjit mentally traumatised. He went missing later that night, prompting a search by relatives and local residents.
At around 5 a.m. on Sunday, his body was discovered hanging from a tree in a nearby forest.
While police have initially termed the case as a suspected suicide, the deceased’s father has lodged a written complaint accusing five individuals of murder.
The accused have been identified as Susmita Bhattacharjee, Sangeeta Bhattacharjee, Saurav Bhattacharjee, Meghadip Bhattacharjee, and Piu Dhar.
Dharmanagar police confirmed that all the accused have been absconding since the incident.
Search operations are underway, and authorities have stated that every aspect of the case, including the viral video and allegations of assault, is being thoroughly investigated.
The incident has sparked widespread grief and anger in the locality, reigniting concerns over the safety, dignity, and mental well-being of delivery workers.
Officials and community members have reiterated that grievances related to delivery services should be addressed through official customer care channels, and that public humiliation, harassment, or violence is unacceptable under any circumstances.
As investigations continue, citizens have been urged to resolve disputes through legal and peaceful means and to refrain from actions that may cause irreversible harm.
The tragic death has once again highlighted the urgent need for accountability, empathy, and lawful conduct in public interactions.
