Road connectivity in Tripura has got a major boost as the Union Government has sanctioned over Rs 456 crore for upgradation and renovation of the Lalchara-Kanchanpur stretch of the National Highway in the State.
In a tweet, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari made the announcement on Wednesday and wrote, Under the Bharatmal project, Rs 456.88 crore has been sanctioned for the rehabilitation and upgradation of Lalchara-Kanchanpur section of NH-44A in Tripura.
Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has extended gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Gadkari for sanctioning the fund.
Deb tweeted, “Much gratitude, Adarniya @nitin_gadkari Ji for sanctioning Rs 456.88Cr for rehabilitation & up-gradation of Lalchara – Kanchanpur section of NH-44A under Bharatmala project. This is another major developmental project approved under the HIRA model of Hon PM Shri @narendramodi Ji”.
The announcement came close on the heels of an announcement made by Union Minister for Shipping, waterways and Ports Sarbananda Sonowal relating to the development of an inland water transport system in Tripura.
As per the announcement, 10 jetties would be constructed on the River Gomati. Besides, an MoU was signed between the State Government Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) and Land Port Authority of India (LPAI) for the development and maintenance of an Inland Water Transport (IWT) Terminal at Srimantapur in Sepahijala district in Tripura.
The State and Central governments are working in tandem to improve the multi-modal connectivity in the State. Apart from highways and inland waterways, the Government has focused on connecting the hamlets. Recently, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb inaugurated 10 paver block roads in the North Tripura district.
