In a bizarre incident on Thursday, a passenger aboard an IndiGo flight bound for Agartala was apprehended by authorities at the Agartala airport.
The individual, identified as 41-year-old Biswajit Debnath, allegedly attempted to open the emergency exit door of the aircraft while it was midair. Additionally, he was reported to have engaged in disruptive behavior with the flight’s crew members, according to statements from the police.
According to Jyotisman Das Chowdhury, a spokesperson for the Tripura police, the incident unfolded during a Guwahati-Agartala IndiGo flight. Debnath’s actions prompted immediate intervention from fellow passengers who managed to prevent him from accessing the emergency exit.
“When the cabin crew instructed Debnath to return to his seat, he allegedly exhibited disorderly conduct towards them. Passengers aboard the flight also claimed that Debnath appeared to be under the influence of narcotics,” stated Das Chowdhury in an official statement to IANS.
Following the flight’s safe landing at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala, Debnath was taken into custody by airport authorities. Legal proceedings are expected to follow as authorities investigate the incident further.
The airline, IndiGo, has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident. (Edited)
