Tripura Government has announced that a Permanent Resident of Tripura Certificate (PRTC) would be required for recruitment in all State government jobs.

State Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury made the announcement on Tuesday saying that the Council of Ministers of the State gave its nod to the proposal of having PRTC a requirement in case of State government jobs from now onwards. He also said the candidates from outside the State would be given relaxation if eligible candidates are not found in the State.

It may be noted several job aspirations were demanding the inclusion of PRTC as one of the criteria for State Government jobs. Owing to the agitation in favour of the PRTC, Agriculture department had to stop a recruitment drive which was kept open for all. Job aspirants raised a strong demand for making the PRTC mandatory in State Government jobs. Local media also highlighted the issue.

Acting promptly on concerns of unemployed youths, the State Government announced that PRTC would be required – the announcement immediately created a positive impact and netizens started hailing the decision.

Talking about other decisions taken by the Council of Ministers, Sushanta Chowdhury said that the cabinet also approved the procurement of more 35,000 MT paddy directly from the farmers at Minimum Support Price (MSP) during this Kharif season.

An amount of around Rs. 85.64 crore would be spent for implementing the decision, he said, adding that the decision would largely benefit the local farmers.

Since the formation of the BJP-IPFT government in 2018, 1.71 lakh MT paddy has been procured from the farmers at an expenditure of Rs. 327 crore.

The paddy procurement from the farmers was started after the BJP-IPFT government came into power in 2018. Earlier, farmers had to sell paddy to middlemen as per the price set up by the latter.
