In a tragic turn of a picnic trip, two youths died and three other sustained injuries after their vehicle fell on a 152 ft deep gorge in Longtharai Hill area while returning from Jampui Hill after a picnic on Sunday. In a separate road mishap, three passengers were injured.
Two deceased persons – Rubel Mian and Litan Rudra Pal – hailed from Bishramganj area, sources said. Jayanta Sarkar (18), Nayan Debnath (20 and Ajay Bhowmik (17) sustained serious injuries. Jayanta and Ajay are the residents of Bishramganj and Ajay hails from Khayerpur.
Sources said, the five youth were traveling in an EECO car towards Ambassa from Jampui Hill. As the car reached Kalitila area under Longtharai Hills, the driver lost control of the car while taking a sharp turn and fell on a 152 ft deep gully. Locals rushed to rescue the passengers, as well as Fire Service personnel, were informed. The vehicle was mangled.
Later, Rubel Mian and Litan Rudra pal were found lying dead and fire service personnel recovered their blood-soaked bodies. Three injured youths were taken to Kulai Hospital in Dhalai district – however, one of them was shifted to the GB Hospital as his condition was critical.
Grief and shock engulfed family members of Rubel and Litan while relatives of the injured youth are plunged into tension.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, three persons were injured after a Tripper dashed a passenger vehicle near Birchandranagar Rail Bridge area under Santirbazar in South Tripura today. Police arrested the driver of the Tipper and seized the Tripper vehicle. The injured passengers hail from Dhaleswar in Agartala.
