The implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in Tripura has recorded a total expenditure of Rs 455.47 crore over the last three years, said Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti.

The Union Minister disclosed the information in response to a query raised by Rajya Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb on Wednesday.

According to the year-wise breakdown, Tripura expended Rs 99.13 crore under the PMGSY scheme during the financial year 2020-21. Out of this allocation, the central government released Rs 69.57 crore to support the initiative.

In the subsequent financial year 2021-22, the state utilized Rs 203.44 crore, with the central government releasing Rs 73.88 crore for the project. During the financial year 2022-23, the central government provided Rs. 251.63 crore, out of which Rs. 152.90 crore was utilized for the PMGSY scheme.

Highlighting the progress of the ongoing project, the Union Minister informed the Rajya Sabha that the construction work for the 1st and 2nd phases of the PMGSY project is scheduled to be completed by March 2024. Meanwhile, the third phase aims for completion by March 2025.

MP Biplab Kumar Deb also sought information on the current status of the PMGSY in Tripura. In response, the Union Minister provided a detailed breakdown of sanctioned projects, categorized by year and district.

As of August 2023, under PMGSY-I, a total of 1,361 road works were sanctioned, out of which 1,319 road works were completed across all eight districts of the State, involving various collaborations and agencies.

Similarly, under PMGSY-II, a total of 42 road works were sanctioned, and 34 of these have been successfully completed as of August 2023.

As the PMGSY-III progresses, 32 road works have been sanctioned, with a stipulated completion deadline of March 2025.
