Tripura Pradesh Congress will hit the streets protesting against the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha and post-poll violence in the State. The party held an organizational meeting in Congress Bhawan in Agartala on Sunday (April 2) and informed the media that party’s protest programmes would commence in Agartala on April 8 next which will continue till April 23 in districts in a phased manner.
Addressing a press meeting in Agartala today, Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Birajit Sinha detailed the incidences of attacks and arsons which occurred after the Assembly Poll results were announced on March 2 last.
Sinha mentioned livelihood sources of many Opposition party supporters were set ablaze and destroyed. He alleged Police did not take any action against the offenders.
He also pointed out the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from the membership of the Lok Sabha and condemned the move. According to the TPCC leader, the move was an anti-democratic step.
“Activists of the Congress will hold a mass Satyagraha in Agartala Congress Bhawan premises on April 8 next and raise voices against the post-poll violence as well as Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification”, Sinha informed the media.
Apart from an extended organizational meeting in Agartala on April 16 next, another protest programme will be organized in the city on April 16 followed by a programme at Kailashahar on April 17 and at Udaipur on April 23, he said.
Criticizing the government, the state Congress president also said that State Government did not give any opportunity to discuss the issue of post-poll violence in the recently concluded Assembly.
In this connection, he vehemently condemned BJP MLA Jadab Lal Nath’s conduct in the Assembly where he was reportedly watching an obscene video. He said, the BJP MLA has brought shame and polluted the Assembly. Sinha demanded stern action against Nath.
Among other Congress leaders, ex-MLA Ashish Kumar Saha were present in the press meeting.
