Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma inaugurated three newly constructed power projects under the North Eastern Power System Development Project in the Gandachhera (Gonda Twisa) sub-division in Tripura. The projects were implemented with the financial assistance of the North Eastern Zone Council (NEC), the Government of India and the World Bank.
Three newly constructed power projects which were inaugurated on Friday by Dev Varma are – 132 KV Ambasa-Gandacherra transmission line, 132 KV Ambassa sub-station capacity enhancement and expansion and 33 KV Gandacherra sub-station capacity enhancement and expansion.
Local MLA Parimal Debbarma, Dhalai District Zilla Parishad Saha-Sabhadhipati Anadi Sarkar, Ambassa Municipal Council Vice Chairman Gopal Sutradhar, Electricity Department Secretary Brijesh Pandey and others were present in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister said the government has accorded priority in power transmission in rural areas, especially in Janajati-dominated areas.
132 KV Ambasa-Gandacherra transmission line will benefit 12 thousand 667 customers in the Gonda Twisa sub-division.Total 152 towers were constructed for this 44 km-long transmission line.
The new transmission line will replace 30 years old 55 km-long overhead transmission line. Maintaining the old transmission line was a difficult proposition as most of its 55km are surrounded by difficult terrain and forest. During the rainy season or any stormy weather, transmission would take a hit and it would take days to identify the faulty area and repair it.
However, with the tower based transmission line, people of Gandachhera would get a relief from prolonged power cuts during inclement weather conditions.
Capacity enhancement of 132 KV Ambassa sub-Station will benefit 39 thousand 661 people. Rs 25.20 crore was spent for the Ambassa-Gandachhera transmission line while Rs 19.80 crore and Rs 1.90 crore were spent respectively for the enhancement of the Ambassa sub-Station and Gandachhera sub-station.
