Physical classes for students of pre-Primary level to the 7th Standard in Tripura shall remain suspended from January 17 next, said Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath while addressing a press meet in Agartala on Saturday.
“In the wake of Covid uptick, the School Education department and Higher Education Department held a virtual meeting and took several decisions keeping in mind the well being of the students as well as their studies”, Nath said.
Briefing the decisions, the Minister said, “All the classes for students of pre-Primary to Class VII shall remain shut from January 17 to January 30 next”.
He, however, pointed out that steps would be taken to introduce the ‘Ektu Khelo, Ektu Pado’ scheme for the concerned students. Besides, initiatives would be made so that the ‘Vande Tripura’ channel of the State Education department would start broadcasting classes. Wherever possible, virtual classes will also be conducted, Nath said.
For the students of class VIII-XII, it has been decided that physical classes will continue with 50 percent attendance. The students who will join the class should bring a consent letter from parents, the Minister said.
Those who will opt out of attending physical classes may contact the Head of the Institutions and if possible, virtual classes for them will be arranged.
Talking about College and University examinations, the Minister said those examinations will continue as scheduled following Covid protocol.
Ratan Lal Nath also made it clear that these decisions were taken to minimize losses in studies, to help students prepare for board exams and to run covid vaccination drive among students smoothly.
