Minister for Agriculture and senior BJP leader of Tripura, Ratanlal Nath, announced a target of securing a minimum of 29,000 votes in favor of the BJP was set in for the upcoming by-polls in the Dhanpur assembly seat.
The by-elections in Dhanpur and Boxanagar Assembly Constituencies under the Sepahijala District of Tripura are scheduled to take place on September 5 next.
Nath was joined by Union MoS Pratima Bhoumik, who had previously won the Dhanpur seat in the 2023 Assembly polls and later resigned. The two leaders participated in various organizational meetings with party workers, focusing on the arrangements and strategies for both constituencies – Boxanagar and Dhanpur.
The event was attended by other prominent figures, including MP Rebati Tripura, Industry and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma, and Tribal Welfare Minister Bikas Debbarma, along with several MLAs and state-level leaders.
Addressing the media after the meetings, Nath stated that the discussions revolved around by-poll preparations.
He emphasized the party’s goal of achieving a minimum of 29,000 votes, aiming to secure 30,000 to 31,000 votes in the Dhanpur constituency.
Nath expressed his belief that the vote count for the CPIM (Communist Party of India – Marxist) would decrease this time, falling below 8,000.
The Minister also urged party workers to adopt a systematic approach and concentrate on direct voter engagement and door-to-door interactions.
It’s worth noting that in the 2023 Assembly Polls, Pratima Bhoumik of the BJP secured 19,148 votes (42.25%) in the Dhanpur constituency, while her closest competitor, Kaushik Chanda of CPIM, garnered 15,648 votes (34.53%), resulting in Bhoumik’s victory by a margin of 3,500 votes.
In the 2023 Assembly Poll, the regional party, TIPRA Motha secured 19.13 percent votes – however, the party is not contesting in the by-polls. Political leaders of both BJP and CPIM are vying for the over 19 percent votes share of the TIPRA Motha.
The ruling BJP has nominated Bindu Debnath for the Dhanpur assembly constituency and Tafajjal Hossain for Boxanagar. The voting is scheduled for September 5th, with the results set to be announced on September 8 next.
