On the Rabindra Jayanti in Tripura, Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore was remembered on his 161st birth anniversary through his songs, poems and dramas across the state on Monday.

The state-level programme, organized by the Information and Cultural Affairs department, was held at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Education minister Ratanlal Nath, ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder and other officials took part in the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Deb said Kabiguru highlighted the India culture and traditions at the global arena. He also had contributions in country freedom struggle. The Chief Minister also pointed out that Kabiguru had a soulful relation with Tripura. In his writings, scenic beauty of the State made a place.

A galaxy of artists from Kolkata including renowned singers- Manomoy Bhattacharjee, Jayati Sarkar Chakraborty and Bachik artist Debesh Thakur presented a cultural evening programme on this occasion and enthralled the audience with their performances.

The 161st Rabindra Jayanti celebration started with a programme, organized by the Information and Cultural Affairs department, at Rabindra Kanan in Agartala. In the programme, Minister Sushanta Chowdhury and others paid tribute to the statue of Kabiguru.

The programme ‘Kabi Pranam’ remained colorful with participation of a good number of children from various cultural organizations.

Later speaking to the media, Chowdhury said, Rabindra Tagore had a cordial relation with Tripura and the then royal family. He said, Kabiguru had visited Tripura and stayed at Malancha Niwas. The ICA minister said, Kabiguru would always be remembered for his unparalleled contributions in taking the society forward.

Deputy Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Manika Das Dutta, chairman of Tripura Tea Board Santosh Saha, secretary of ICA department P.K. Goyal, Director Ratan Biswas and vice chairman of state-level cultural advisory committee Subhash Deb were also present in the programme.
