People woke up to a rain soaked Wednesday and preparing to take part in Ulto Rath at different places in Tripura. But, in the evening shock waves hit after the devastating report of death of 7 devotees – 3 women, 3 children and one man – spread like a wild fire. Entire State plunged into deep shock and grief.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister of Tripura expressed deep condolences. Power Minister of Tripura, Ratan Lal Nath too extended condolences to the bereaved family members. 

Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury expressed deep grief. He also expressed his sympathy and condolences to bereaved families. Other Ministers and MLAs also expressed condolences.

BJP State president Rajib Bhattacharjee along with former Deputy CM Jishnu Dev Varma extended deepest sympathy and condolences.

Expressing shock and condolences, Opposition leader Animesh Debbarma demanded stern actions against those who would be found guilty after the probes.

TIPRA Motha Party supremo Pradyut Kishore Debbarma said, “Hearing about a terrible incident in Kumarghat during the rath yatra , my prayers and condolences to all those who have been affected . I have immediately asked all my local MLAs and MDC to extend all help possible.” 

Tripura Pradesh Congress Chief Ashish Saha also deep shock and grief. In a statement, Saha said May the God grant the endurance power to the victims’ family members at this crucial time. 

On behalf of the CPIM State Secretariat Committee, Rakhal Majumder also expressed deep shock, condolences and sympathy to victims’ family members.

Among others, Assam Chief Minister Dr Hemant Biswa Sharma also expressed his condolences. 

He said, Devastated by the tragic incident during the Ulta Rath Yatra at Kumarghat, where devotees lost their lives & others were injured due to electrocution. My heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones in this unfortunate event, Assam Chief Minister tweeted.

Besides, several national level leaders of different political parties also condoled the death of 7 devotees and extended sympathy to the victims’ family members.
