Four persons were killed and 10 persons were wounded in two separate road accidents in North Tripura on Wednesday.
Three persons were killed after a Bailey bridge on Laljhuri rivulet collapsed with a timber-laden lorry at Laljhuri area in Kanchanpur under North district. The lorry with 11 labourers and the driver was heading towards Machmara. The bridge caved in while the lorry was passing through the bridge. The skidded off and fell on the rivulet.
The three deceased persons are Bhagya Chakma (28), Ranjit Chakma (32) and driver of the ill-fated lorry, Arun Nath (42). The remaining nine people were injured in the accident. The wounded persons were referred to Dharmanagar District Hospital.
Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Kanchanpur, Subhashish Acharya and Officer in charge of Kanchanpur Police Station S Krishnadhan Sarkar rushed to the spot.
In another road mishap, driver of a Container vehicle was killed after his vehicle collided with a 12-wheel lorry at Baluchhara area under Panisagar in the North Tripura district.
The deceased, Abdur Rahman Choudhury (37), hailed from the Cachar district in Assam. The co-driver of the Container vehicle Dipak Das sustained injuries and was taken to Panisagar sub-divisional Hospital.
According to sources, the Churaibari-bound Container vehicle had a head-on collision with Iron-rod laden 12-wheel truck and the driver of the Container vehicle died on spot. A case was registered at Panisagar Police.
