In an attempt to provide relief to people of the West District from eye cataract disease, a six-month long programme, Roshni Abhiyan was launched in Agartala on Monday.  

The Blindness Prevention Association of the District Health & Family Welfare Society had undertaken a 6-month long campaign called – ‘Roshni Abhiyan’ to free the citizens of West Tripura district from eye cataract disease.

Addressing a press conference on Monday the DM of West Tripura district Debapriya Bardhan informed that Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb had inaugurated the ‘Roshni Abhiyan’ campaign at Ranirgaon High School at Jirania on April 27 last.

Briefing about the campaign the DM said that the ASHA workers will make a door to door visit in the West Tripura district to look for cataract patients and accordingly the patients will be brought to the primary health centres and community health centres, where the Ophthalmic Assistants will re-examine the patients.

Presently the Ophthalmic assistants are inducted in 10 primary health centres besides the IGM Hospital, AGMC & GBP Hospital. After completing all the procedures of the initial phase of secondary treatment, the experienced ophthalmologist of IGM Hospital and AGMC & GBP Hospital will re-examine the patients through eye camp conducted by DBCP and identify them for eye surgery.

Completely free arrangements have been made to bring the patients for eye surgery from the camp to IGM Hospital or AGMC & GBP Hospital and return them to their respective places after the operation, he said.

The DM further informed, “The operation of selected patients will be done completely free of cost. In this operation patients will be provided with excellent lenses, various small instruments used in the operation, pre and post-operative medicine, diet, black glasses after the operation.”
