A significant step toward fostering an interest in science and technology among students in Tripura has been undertaken as the North Eastern Council and the Ministry of Culture have allocated a substantial sum of Rs 50 crore. This allocation is intended for setting up of a science park, themed galleries, and planetariums within the Science City, aimed at engaging and educating the youth about scientific advancements and innovations.

During the 37th Executive Committee Meeting of the Tripura State Council of Science & Technology (TSCST), held in the Conference Hall No. 01 of the Secretariat in Agartala, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha emphasized the necessity of cultivating a keen interest in science and technology among students statewide. He advocated for the implementation of innovative programs rooted in science to captivate the curiosity of young minds.

Dr. Saha underscored the importance of launching awareness programs focused on science and technology to serve the needs of the general populace. He stressed the significance of periodic assessments to ascertain the progress and plan for further developmental initiatives in the field of science and technology within the state.

The Chief Minister urged the Department of Science, Technology, and Environment to take the lead in collaborating with pertinent departments involved in developmental activities. Additionally, he called for the formulation of strategic action plans for diverse projects.

In the meeting, Animesh Das, Director of the Science, Technology, and Environment Department, revealed plans to establish a science park in Agartala’s Science City, with a sanctioned amount of Rs 10.29 crore provided by the North Eastern Council. Furthermore, an additional Rs 40 crore has been sanctioned by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, earmarked for the creation of themed galleries and planetariums.
