Bank employees in Tripura, like other parts of the country under different banners are conducting series of protest programmes with a ‘Bank Bachao, Desh Bachao’ slogan. Apart from Dharna, protest rally across the country and at Jantar Mantar, the Regional Rural Banks will observe all India strike in September 2022 protesting against the ‘privatization’ bid of the government.
Opposing the IPO/Privatization bid, the All India Regional Rural Bank Employees Association – a Confederation of National Federation of RRB Officers, National Federation of RRB Employees & National Federation of Retired RRB Staff – also started a series of protest programmes in Tripura and elsewhere. The Association members started holding agitation from July 15. The Bank staff will hold Day-Long Dharna and deputation before the Head Office of RRBs on Friday (July 22).
In a press release, the Association leaders said the National Dharna will be held at Jantar Mantar on August 10 next while all India strike in RRBs will be observed on September 23 next.
Meantime, the All India Bank Officers Confederation held several programs in different districts across the state at different places in Sepahijala and Gomati districts.
“The central government is planning to privatize two nationalized banks. The government attempted to privatize the bank in the budget session in 2021 but it got stuck because of protests. The United Forum Bank union started a movement across the country to prevent the privatization of these banks”, agitating Bank employees commented.
The leadership of bank officers and employees’ organizations alleged the central government is taking one step after another to destroy the functioning of the nationalized banking industry.
“Even as the government is constantly trying to privatize the Nationalized banks, we are determined to oppose it as it would be harmful for Bank employees as well as it will be against the interest of the country”, Bank employees’ alleged.
