In accordance with the Supreme Court verdict relating to pay ex-gratia to relatives of those who died in Corona, the disbursement of Rs 50,000 has started in the Sadar sub-division in West Tripura district.
A total of 50 successors of Covid victims received Rs 50,000 each on Thursday.
The assistance was provided in the presence of Sub-Divisional Magistrate Asim Saha and Additional Sub-Divisional Magistrate Binoy Bhushan Das at the Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s Office in Agartala today.
Sadar sub-divisional Magistrate Asim Saha said the new project is providing financial assistance to the relatives of those who passed away in 2021 due to Covid. Earlier, if the deceased had a government job, the family would not get any financial assistance. However, from now on, everyone will get this assistance as per the directions of the Supreme Court and the decision of the state government.
In case of the death of a public servant in Covid, to get the ex-gratia, relatives will have to declare in writing that they will not avail of the die-in-harness facility.
In Sadar subdivision 124 people have died in Covid. The headquarters is divided into four zones and teams are being formed to find the family members of the persons who died due to Covid in 2021.
The process of tracing the relatives is taking some time as in many cases the address of the deceased family members is not correct.
“The ex-gratia, Rs 50,000, has already been paid in the accounts of each of the 50 beneficiaries. Some other families do not have the necessary paperwork. However, the teams are working with all these aspects in mind. Sadar SDM Asim Saha urged all the eligible beneficiaries to avail of the government help.
