The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will return to power in Tripura with an absolute majority, party leaders claimed in Agartala on Sunday (Feb 19).
Polls for 60 seats State Assembly were held on February 16 last in which around 90 per cent votes were cast.
Speaking to the media, BJP State president Rajib Bhattacharjee exuded confidence on party’s return to power with absolute majority. He said, there exist no force which can stop the BJP from forming the government in the state.
Meantime, Bhattacharjee appealed to party activists not to fall in trap of opposition parties. He also urged the activists to stay alert about the opposition parties’ ploy to create violence and disturbances in the post poll phase in State.
The party State president called for restraint and vigilance in the face of potential opposition violence
In view of the recent post-poll violence at different places in the state, district-wise committees have been formed to address the issue.
These committees will submit reports to the BJP State president after visiting their respective areas.
The BJP has alleged that the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Congress are making trouble after realizing that they would not be able to defeat the BJP.
BJP’s anticipated victory in Tripura is in line with the party’s growing dominance in India’s northeast. BJP leaders and workers worked hard to ensure party’s second term in Tripura for party’s further consolidation in the region prior to 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
In 2018 Assembly polls, BJP’s win in Tripura was significant because the state had been a stronghold of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) for over two decades.
The BJP’s victory marked a major shift in the political landscape of the state.
