Atleast 30 students fell ill after eating khichudi of mid-day meal in Tripura.
The incident took place on Friday in Chamanu Dhanyaram Karbari Para of Longtharai Valley subdivision under Dhalai district.
It is known that class 1 to class 3 students of Chamanu English Medium School eat khichudi in the Mid Day Meal after their classes.
The Khichudi were cooked twice in two different cauldrons. The students who ate khichudi cooked in the first lot did not experience any problem after eating.
However, khichudi cooked in the second cauldron caused students to experience stomach pain and headache, sources said.
Some of the locals said affected students also started vomiting.
It is assumed that food poisoning in Khichudi was the reason behind the illness of students.
Sensing trouble, school teachers quickly took the affected students to Chaumanu Primary Health centre under Longtharai Valley sub division for treatment.
Meanwhile, guardians also rushed to the health centre.
After getting information about the incident, Inspector of Schools (IS) of Chaumanu reached the hospital. Besides, SDM of Longtharai Valley sub division, Amartya Barman, Chief Medical Officer of the sub division, Paul Darlong and the Opposition leader of the Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) also went to the Chaumanu health centre to oversee the condition of the affected students.
Among the ill students, six were referred to Chailengtha Sub divisional Hospital for better treatment.
While the administration is closely monitoring the treatment of the students, the concerned department ordered a probe into the incident.
“An investigation will be done to ascertain as to how the food poisoning in khichudi happened”, informed sources said.
The incident sparked tension and resentment among the locals. The students who ate khichudi cooked in first cauldron were also to see their friends ill after eating the mid day meal.
