The Special Economic Zone, once completed, would make the state’s southernmost part Sabroom a corridor to the entire South-East Asia.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said during his visit to South Tripura on Thursday. He said the proposed SEZ would generate employment scopes to many people.
“An amount of Rs. 573.99 crore has been sanctioned for six projects to be implemented in South Tripura. Among them, the estimated expenditure for creating a Logistics Hub at Sabroom is Rs. 118.47 crore and for Integrated Check Post Rs. 97.60 crore. Besides, the Multipurpose Economic Zone will be set up on a 16.35 hectare area at a total cost of Rs. 60.57 crore,” Deb said.
He also said that a road infrastructure project — construction of 22 km national highway (NH 108) from Jolaibari to Belonia — would cost Rs. 201.99 crore.
Expressing hope, Deb said the people living in South Tripura would start receiving the benefits of various government initiatives within the next two/three years.
The Chief Minister was speaking after inaugurating the newly-constructed building of Rajnagar Primary Health Centre. Meanwhile, the number of beds in the PHC has now increased from 10 to 30.
In his speech, Deb said various works meant for development of Bharat-Bangla Maitri Park at Chottakhola that preserves the memories of 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War would begin in the next seven days. The estimated expenditure is Rs. 5.79 crore. Besides, the government would spend another Rs. 7 crore for development of Abhang Cherra Eco Park.
On the other hand, the state government would set up a five-star hotel in South Tripura district considering the tourism potentials, he said.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister’s visit in South Tripura registered good response from the local people.
