State Artisans Honoured for R-Day 2026 Invitation Boxes for Rashtrapati Bhavan
Teliamura (Tripura), Feb 18: Seven tribal artisans from Dutta Malsom Para in Nonachhara ADC Village were felicitated on Wednesday for designing special bamboo “Home Invitation” boxes used for Republic Day 2026 celebrations at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The felicitation programme was organised by the Nokhayung Hamkhrai Society, where the artisans were presented with certificates of honour in recognition of their national-level achievement. The event was attended by Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, Society Secretary Billu Jamatia, and other distinguished guests.
National-Level Recognition
The bamboo invitation boxes, crafted for the Republic Day 2026 celebrations, were prepared under the supervision of the Centre for Bamboo Initiatives and the National Institute of Design.
The seven artisans behind the project are Eska Malsom, Seba Manik Malsom, Karini Malsom, Selini Malsom, Eslaman Malsom, Gabriham Malsom, and Regan Malsom. Their work has been widely appreciated for its intricate bamboo craftsmanship, aesthetic appeal, and eco-friendly design.
Minister’s Remarks
Addressing the gathering, Minister Bikash Debbarma said that Tripura’s tribal community is steadily establishing a distinct national identity through traditional handicrafts. He noted that international-quality designs are emerging even from remote villages and added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, new avenues have opened up for tribal artisans across the country. The success of Nonachhara ADC Village, he said, stands as clear evidence of this transformation.
Pride of a Remote Village
Nonachhara ADC Village, located under Mungiakami Block in the 29 Krishnapur Assembly Constituency, is considered one of Tripura’s remote regions. The achievement of these artisans has brought national recognition to the village and highlighted the creative potential rooted in its traditional bamboo craft heritage.
The Nokhayung Hamkhrai Society described the accomplishment as a matter of pride not only for the seven artisans but for the entire region. The Society emphasised that continued encouragement and recognition would further inspire local craftsmen to excel.
Having preserved bamboo craftsmanship as a family tradition for generations, the artisans have now left their imprint on an event associated with the country’s highest constitutional office—marking a significant milestone for Tripura’s handicrafts sector at the national level.
