Official process to conduct polls in 20 Civic Bodies including Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) will start from tomorrow (Wednesday October 27, 2021). The State Election Commission will issue notification tomorrow for conducting the Civic Body Polls and on the same day, Returning Officers of 20 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) will also issue public notice.

 

Candidates will be allowed to file nominations from tomorrow after the issuance of the notification. The last date of nomination filing is November 3 next and scrutiny will be conducted on November 5 next. The last date of nomination withdrawal is November 11 next. Polls in 334 seats of 20 ULBs including AMC will be held on November 25 and counting is on November 28 next.

 

Out of the total 334 seats, 51 seats are in AMC. A total of 157 seats of 334 are reserved for women while eight seats and 85 seats are reserved for ST and SC candidates. Number of total voters stands at 5 lakh 94 thousand 772.

 

Meanwhile, preparations to conduct the polls are going on in full swing. The State Election Commission already held meetings with the representatives of political parties in Agartala.

 

An all party meeting was held at Kailashahar on Tuesday in which representatives of BJP, Congress, TMC and CPM took part. DM of Unakoti UK Chakma presided over the meeting which Chakma sought cooperation from all the political parties for conducting the polls in Kailashahar and Kumarghat Municipal Councils.

 

Similar all party meeting was held at Khowai in which SDM Ashit Kumar Das presided over. Representatives of BJP, Congress and CPM were present in the meeting.
