Statehood Day: CM Reaffirms Vision of ‘New Tripura’

Agartala, Jan 21: Tripura marked its Statehood Day on Wednesday with renewed calls for unity, inclusive growth and accelerated development.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi,  Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and other leaders greeted the people. They also highlighted the state’s journey, achievements and future vision.

The Statehood Day was observed across the State. However, the main celebration was held at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan here.

Extending greetings on the occasion through a post on X, Prime Minister Modi congratulated the people of Tripura. He said the state’s progress reflects a unique harmony between tradition and modernity.

He noted that Tripura has undergone pioneering changes across multiple sectors and that its people are contributing meaningfully to India’s overall growth. The Prime Minister expressed hope that the state would achieve even greater prosperity in the years ahead.

Addressing the Statehood Day function, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said Tripura is steadily advancing towards the vision of a “New Tripura”, envisioned as a vibrant blend of inclusive development, rich cultural heritage, empowered youth, world-class infrastructure and a self-reliant future.

On the occasion, six individuals were conferred with the State Citizen Award, while 11 others received the Statehood Day Award for their outstanding contributions in various fields. The Chief Minister and other dignitaries presented the awards to the recipients.

The event was attended by Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Higher Education Minister Kishor Barman, Director General of Police Anurag, and other senior officials.

Dr Saha reaffirms building a strong Tripura

Speaking before a large gathering, the Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s firm resolve to build a stronger, more prosperous and forward-looking state.

He said that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Tripura government remains committed to transparent, accountable and people-centric governance.

Dr Saha said the Prime Minister’s dynamic and farsighted leadership has ushered in a phase of turbo-charged development and genuine empowerment across Tripura, particularly benefiting youth, women and Janjati (tribal) communities, while safeguarding India’s timeless cultural and ethical values.

Highlighting the impact of the Act East Policy, the Chief Minister said Tripura and the entire Northeastern region are progressing rapidly on multiple development fronts, driven by improved connectivity, modern infrastructure and enhanced integration with national and regional markets.

He noted that since the BJP government assumed office in Tripura in 2018, the state has emerged as one of the leading performers in key sectors such as agriculture, education, healthcare, industry, infrastructure development, women’s empowerment, public safety and self-reliance.

According to the Chief Minister, the government’s core objectives include improving the quality of life of every citizen, strengthening the state’s economy, ensuring optimal utilisation of local resources and decentralising power through transparent and responsive governance.

He reiterated the state’s commitment to the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’. Dr Saha said the Tripura government is working in alignment with the Prime Minister’s guidance to accelerate the state’s overall development.

Calling upon the people on the occasion of Statehood Day, the Chief Minister urged citizens to renew their collective pledge to contribute towards building a “New Tripura”.

PM Modi’s letter

During the programme, Dr Saha read out a letter from Prime Minister Modi addressed to him on Tripura’s Statehood Day. In the message, the Prime Minister reiterated the Centre’s unwavering commitment to inclusive development, improved connectivity, peace and prosperity in the Northeastern region.

Prime Minister Modi, in his message, said the Centre’s ‘Purvodaya’ vision, aimed at accelerating development in eastern India, is also playing a transformative role in driving growth across the Northeast.

He observed that for decades, people of the region, including Tripura, had felt distant from the national mainstream, a reality the present government has worked to change by bridging physical and emotional distances.

The Prime Minister also noted that over the past eight years, the double-engine governments at the Centre and in Tripura have worked with dedication for the state’s transformation, in keeping with the decisive mandates given by the people in the 2018 and 2023 Assembly elections.
