Several areas under Khowai and Kamalpur sub-division in Tripura experienced a severe storm on Tuesday night.

At least, two persons including a woman were injured. Several houses were damaged, trees and electric poles were uprooted causing disruption in traffic movement and power supply. Gusty wind damaged rubber plantations and crops in those areas. A total of 27 families took refuge in a temporary relief camp and administration extended financial assistance to those families.  

 

Meanwhile, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb in a social media post said the state government stands by the side of storm-affected families. The administration took necessary steps for extending help to them.

 

According to reports, two persons including a woman were injured in Kamalpur after trees collapsed on them during the storm.

 

The injured persons- Prabhati Das of Maracherra area and Partha Bikas Das of Kuchainala village were immediately taken to Bimal Sinha Memorial Hospital in Kamalpur.

In Kamalpur, the storm damaged a good number of houses and electric poles. The power supply was disrupted for hours. In some places, the traffic movement was also disrupted as trees collapsed on the roads after being hit by the storm.

 

In Khowai, around 200 houses were damaged, several rubber plantations and crop fields were affected following a severe storm.

 

Some areas like Asharambari, Banbazar, Chamubasti, Thanabasti and Krishnamabasti under Tulashikhar block were severely hit by the storm.

 

A team of administration visited the storm-hit areas and interacted with the affected people—27 families were shifted to interim relief camps at Asharambari Higher Secondary School and Krishnamabasti Junior Basic School. Besides, the administration also extended financial assistance of Rs. 3000 to each of the affected families.
