The Southwest Monsoon has advanced into all parts of Tripura.

As the people of the State wake up to a heavily clouded Saturday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said, the Southwest Monsoon advanced across the State on Friday (June 3).

According to the weather forecast, sky shall remain overcast on Saturday. Rains along with thunderstorms are likely to occur at some places.

In Agartala, intermittent rains brought the Saturday mercury to a comfortable zone. Pump operators were seen stood present in front of the pump houses in the city to tackle water logging in the city in case of a heavy rain.

However, the rains have caused troubles for those who will observe Jamai Shasthi on Sunday. Small time vendors with things associated with rituals for Jamai Shasthi started to pour in City markets since early morning despite overcast sky. Heavy crowd, amidst intermittent rains, were witnessed in these markets.

Buyers opined that prices of the items necessary for the observance of the rituals were exuberantly high. Some of the buyers, who are now in-laws – became nostalgic and recalled their time as ‘Jamai’.

According to 70-year old Sushanta Banik, his mother-in-law used to make the item used to sprinkle ‘Shanti Jol’ with meadow grass and other things in her home. The string used to tie on hand of the Jamai was also a home prepared item. Now, owing to modern day hectic life, we are purchasing all the items from the markets. Moreover, there is no space to grow any plants – not even meadow grass, he commented.

Crowd was observed in vegetable, fish and meat markets as well.
