Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for a TB-free India by 2025. In response to the Prime Minister’s call, the state government has also pledged to build a TB-free Tripura by 2025, said Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Monday.
While speaking at the annual general meeting of the Tripura TB Association in Agartala, he also said, the TB Association also needs to play an important role in building a TB-free Tripura.
In his speech, the Chief Minister further said that the public also needs to be aware to build a TB-free Tripura. TB disease does not only attack the respiratory system, it can cause infection in every part of the body.
If treatment is started on time, it is possible to get rid of this disease. Therefore, the TB Association also needs to focus on creating awareness among the people about this disease, he said.
The Chief Minister said that the TB Association is doing good work. To create awareness among the public about the initiatives taken by the TB Association to build a TB-free Tripura, regular promotional campaigns need to be organized. In addition, people’s representatives at various levels need to be involved in the campaign to build a TB-free Tripura. It will be possible to build a TB-free Tripura by 2025 with the combined efforts of all.
In his welcome speech at the event, TB Association Joint Secretary Dr. Kaushik Nag said that the TB Association mainly works in the control, treatment, and provision of relief assistance for TB patients. The TB Association provides free X-ray services to TB patients under BPL. In addition, a TB seal sale campaign is organized every year on behalf of the association.
The meeting was attended by State TB Officer Dr. Nupur Debbarma, Joint Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Department Dr. Soumitra Mallick, and West Tripura District Police Superintendent Dr. Kiran Kumar.
