In a keenly contested final match, Jubaraj Team won the Kamal Cup Cricket tournament defeating the Das Medical Hall team by 52 runs.
The high-octane final match was played at Amtali School ground in Agartala on Wednesday.
This tournament, most probably, the first ever tournament held in Tripura in which Kamal Cup Champion team has been awarded a car.
Amidst a huge gathering all around the ground – even some of the cricket lovers climbed up trees to have a better view, Jubaraj Team went to bat first and scored 172 runs in 16 over. Chasing the target, Das Medical could manage 120 runs losing all the wickets.
The tournament ended with distribution of attractive prizes. The champion team, Jubaraj Team, was awarded a luxury car from Tata Progressive Motors along with a giant trophy.
The runners up team, Das Medical Team received Rs. 50,000 and a trophy.
Rajat Munda scored the highest 75 runs and won ‘man of the match’ award. Furkan Malik was selected the Player of the tournament and won a motorbike.
The Fair Play Award went to Amtali XI Star. Besides, Bapi won the Best Wicketkeeper award while Best Fielder prize went to Ravana Devvarma, Best Umpire award to Dipankar Acharya, Best Volunteer award to Biplab Acharya alias Rocket and Best Spectator award was won by Deepak Chakraborty.
According to the management committee, the tournament saw participation of a good number of cricketers from Bangladesh, Kolkata and other places.
Minister Ramprasad Paul and his team had initiated the tournament – they visibly received immense response from across the state.
Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Verma, ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, minister and local MLA Ramprasad Paul, BJP state president and president of Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) Dr. Manik Saha, Purvaudaya general secretary Niti Deb and others were present in the prize distribution ceremony.
The tournament evoked much interest among the cricket lovers.
