A young doctor who served the people of Teliamura sub division in Tripura with dedication and kindness died of a heart attack on Monday night. 

Dr. Surjit Das, 32, was a resident doctor at Teliamura sub-district hospital and lived in a rented house in the town. 

Dr Das hailed from Melaghar under Sepahijala District of Tripura. 

According to hospital sources, Dr. Das felt unwell in the evening and called the on-duty doctor for help. He was advised to come to the hospital immediately and he checked himself in. However, his condition was found to be critical and he was referred to IGM Hospital in Agartala for better treatment.

As his condition continued to be critical, he was referred to the GB Hospital in Agartala.

Sadly, while he was being shifted from IGM Hospital to GBP Hospital, he had a severe heart attack and passed away in the night.

It is learnt Dr Das was suffering from liver ailment for the last one year. He had to be admitted in the GBP hospital during the last Durga Puja festival. 

Dr. Das had joined Teliamura Hospital in 2017 and had won the hearts of the local people with his professionalism and generosity. He was known to go out of his way to help the poor and needy patients, often buying medicines for them from his own pocket.

He leaves behind his parents, two brothers and a large number of relatives and friends who mourn his sudden and tragic death. He was a role model for many young doctors and a ray of hope for many patients. According to his patients, his loss is a huge blow to the society at large.
