A total of one thousand Covaxin doses had been brought to Tripura with special permission in order to inoculate those who had already administered the first dose in some other parts of the country.

“A good number of people came back to Tripura in apprehension of a country wide lockdown. Most of them had received the first jab of Covaxin in the places where they stay owing to their work. Since Tripura does not have a Covaxin and only gives Covidshield to the beneficiaries special arrangements have been made for those selected beneficiaries“, NHM Mission Director Siddhartha Shiv Jaiswal.

On being asked as to how it would be disseminated, he said, as of now one thousand doses of the vaccine has been brought to Tripura. “Now, our focus is to identify the beneficiaries who want the second dose of Covaxin. As per our analysis there are 300 to 400 such beneficiaries who will be needing the second dose of Covaxin. Later, the leftover doses will be rationally used”, added Jaiswal.

According to him, after selection and registration of the beneficiaries that will be done within the May 05 next, doses will be administered in the closest session site from the house of the beneficiary.

Meanwhile, sources said, Hepatitis Foundation Tripura played a pivotal role in making Covaxin available  in Tripura. Senior members of the foundation including Dr Pradip Bhowmik talked to the higher officials of the department and following his suggestion the doses were brought to state. Now, the whole storage was kept under the supervision of CMO west.
