Corona situation in Unakoti district in Tripura is turning out to be grim – importantly, this year, several children in Kailashahar and adjoining areas have tested Covid positive.
On May 07, 2021, three children – a 5-year old girl of Paitur bazaar, a 7-year old child of Kancharghat and another 7-year child of Kaulikura Panchayat in Kailashahar – tested Covid positive. According to the Unakoti District Surveillance Officer, a total of 17 fresh cases were detected today pushing the total number Covid cases to 191.
Last year, a Covid Care centre was set up at RGM Hospital in Kailashahar, however, sources alleged, medical facilities and infrastructure are insufficient to handle any medical emergency of a Covid patient.
Along with the State, the number of Covid positive cases is increasing in Kailashahar – moreover, unlike previous year, children are also getting infected by the deadly disease. Today, three children tested Covid positive – a 5-year old girl of Paitur bazaar, a 7-year old child of Kancharghat and another 7-year child of Kaulikura Panchayat in Kailashahar. According to the Unakoti District Surveillance Officer, a total of 17 fresh cases were detected today pushing the total number Covid cases to 191.
As it is already reported that Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb would visit Kailashahar to review the Covid preparedness, people are expecting that the Chief Minister would take necessary step to harness the capacity of the Covid care Centre and enhance its infrastructural facilities so that people of Kailashahar can avail proper treatment at the CCC in Hospital.
“Doctors and other staff are working with dedication. However, resources are seriously constrained. Last year, a 30-bed ward with Oxygen facility was set up. However, 16 beds were kept reserved for Cardiac patients. There are two ventilators without a single specialist to run the Ventilators. Moreover, there is no ICU facility in Covid ward”, sources claimed.
According to sources, three doctors are taking care of the Covid centre in turn – out of them one is an Ayush doctor on contract, one is a Homeopathy doctor and the other one is an allopathic doctor.
“In view of the threats posed by Corona, the role of doctors other than an allopathic doctor needs to be judged. The Chief Minister, we hope, must take note of this and take necessary steps to ensure more allopathic doctors for Covid treatment”, Hospital source on condition of anonymity commented.
As the Covid menace continues, people are worried about deaths and sufferings of Covid patients in Kailashahar. Even as most patients got cured last year, a couple of Covid patients died on the way to GB Hospital while few others collapsed in the RGM Hospital.
