In a tragic incident, three labourers died while working on power transmission lines at Lal Tila under Sabroom in Tripura on Saturday (July 23). The youths were working on installing poles of 33KV power transmission.
According to an eye witness, installation works were almost done and today was last day of the works. They were doing casting today. At that time, the 14-meter-tall pole that they installed started sliding and fell on 11000kv power transmission lines. Three youths were trying to hold back the pole in its position. Meantime, the pole touched the high tension 11000Kv transmission line and the labourers were burnt to death on spot. Another labour, somehow, survived.
The deceased youths – Sanjib Tripura (34), Hridaya Tripura (16) and Upender Tripura (27) – hailed from Chaltachhari under Manubazar Police Station. Later, Fire service personnel recovered the bodies and took to the hospital.
After the incident, local MLA Sankar Roy rushed to the Hospital and extended sympathy to the bereaved family members.
The bodies will be handed over to respective family members on Sunday after post-mortem, sources said. The MLA said financial assistance would be provided to the victims’ family members after the post-mortem. Police started an investigation.
It is learnt, Power Grid is the main organization for the implementation of the works. However, Power Grid entrusted another Company, namely Supreme which again engaged a local contractor Bikas Malla for executing the works.
The ill-fated labourers who died today were among the 11 workers working under Malla.
