Tipra Motha is not thinking of forming an alliance with any political party right now as no party has come up to discuss our demand – we want constitutional solution to our demand. No matter how much is being discussed outside, it is nothing but propaganda, party leaders said.
Close on the heels of clarification on Greater Tipraland by the Congress leaders, possibility of alliance between Congress and Tipra Motha was talk of the town. Congress Observer for Tripura Dr Ajay Kumar recently said demand for Greater Tipra Land is not only ‘geographic’ but implies a lot of devolution of power for the tribal societies. He also said Congress would consider the demand within the framework of the Indian Constitution and all legal steps will have to be taken within the Constitution so that all stakeholders get impacted – whether it is Tripura or neighbouring State, everyone has to be taken into confidence. After achieving this, the next step will be taken within the purview of the Constitution.
However, one of the executive members of the TTAADC and Tipra Motha leader Animesh Debbarma made it clear that Tipra Motha is not pondering over alliance with any party.
He said political parties that agree with their demands for a Greater Tipraland or have specific commitments to the overall development of the tribes will be consulted openly. Debbarma said parties interested to form an alliance with us must have a detailed discussion. And the meeting through the back door.
Animesh Debbarma claimed a lot of development work is going on in the ADC area. The ADC administration is working on behalf of the people.
In this situation, the party is giving utmost importance to the interest of the people in the upcoming elections. He categorically denied that there was any discussion of alliance or seat compromise with any party including Congress or any other political party.
He said he would consider the alliance only after receiving a written promise in black and white.
